Strong frontline leaders in healthcare are essential to quality patient care. Eastern Health’s Emerging Leader Program is the first tier of the organization’s leadership development program and explicitly focuses on cultivating the essential knowledge, skills, abilities and behaviors related to fostering relationships and leading inter-professional teams. Using a blended approach to learning, this certificate-based Program is aimed toward frontline employees who possess an intention and aspiration to ‘grow’ or develop themselves in preparation for expanded leadership roles and responsibilities. Program participants are high performing, high potential employees who understand the power of teamwork and are committed to building strong interpersonal relationships within their teams for better patient care.
We asked and they answered! Through an extensive consultation process, our frontline leaders told us exactly what they needed to get their jobs done and what kind of training would help them get there. One of their asks included a need to ‘manage time and workload effectively through scheduling, delegating and prioritizing.’ Review of our existing in-house training quickly identified this very gap, and so began our partnership with HealthCareCAN!
HealthCareCAN worked with us to design and deliver a 2- part webinar series to meet the needs of our frontline leaders. The skilled Lean facilitator not only proved to be a content expert, but continued to engage our participants and solidify learning through the use of relevant, clinical examples, practical post-webinar activities, and a little humor, of course, that really drove the key messages home. To top it all off and completely spoil us- the online portal was customized with pictures of our employees for an ‘at home’ feel- what a magnificent gesture!
The evaluations of both webinars speak for themselves. All participants indicated they would recommend the webinars to others, the webinars met their expectations and the webinars provided information that was practical and useful to them to use immediately. Hats off to HealthCareCAN– you nailed it!
I would like to send a huge THANK YOU to the amazing, skilled and simply a ‘pleasure to work with’ folks at HealthCareCAN and Leading Edge Group, who have certainly gone the extra mile for us on this part of our leadership journey!
