Description

Foundations of Integrated Quality Management is the first course in our Integrated Quality Management Program. This course will introduce learners to healthcare quality improvement and its key frameworks, tools and techniques. Participants will learn about how to build a quality framework for an organization or team and be introduced to tools and techniques required for successful implementation of such plans and initiatives. As well, learners will be introduced to key leaders and resources in the field of healthcare quality so they can keep abreast of new developments and innovations. Learners will have a chance to apply their learning through reflections and activities including an assessment of their organization or team quality performance.

Who should take Foundations of Integrated Quality Management?

This course is for healthcare professionals who wish to gain an introductory level of knowledge in healthcare quality improvement and management.


Learning outcomes

At the completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Explain the background and impetus for integrating elements of IQM together;
  • Understand and define a common set of IQM terminology;
  • Communicate the importance of patient and family engagement;
  • Describe the philosophical foundations of continuous quality improvement and best practice models and frameworks;
  • Explain about key QI tools and techniques and when to use them as part of the IQM process; and
  • Understand the theoretical and practical basis for developing and implementing quality plans at the local or organizational level.

Requirements

It is highly recommended that students have workplace support for taking this course as many activities are hands-on and best completed in a healthcare environment.

To be successful in the Integrated Quality Management program, students must meet the following language and technical requirements.


Prerequisites

None


Language

English is the language of instruction for all CHA Learning courses. It is therefore recommended that students be competent in reading, writing and speaking English.


Technical

Students must have basic computer knowledge and internet navigation skills; and access to a computer with Window 7 or higher.

Please note:

  • Students choosing to use Mac or Linux operating system must have experience using alternate remote access software.

Grading

Each course will have assessed components, which may include:

  • Graded assignments
  • Reflection activities
  • Applied activities

In addition to graded components, participants will be engaged in thought-provoking activities and online discussions with peers across the country, as well as expert faculty.


Course Certificate

Students receive a course certificate issued by HealthCareCAN for the individual course successfully completed within Integrated Quality Management.
