Fundamentals of Risk Management is the third course from our Integrated Quality Management Program. This course will introduce the basic fundamentals of risk management (including Enterprise Risk Management), provide an overview of the practical uses of risk management and explore methods for utilizing risk management in a healthcare setting. Learners will apply and practice learning in their own healthcare environment.

This course is for healthcare professionals who would like to acquire a solid foundational understanding of healthcare risk management theory as well as tools and techniques for managing risk in their own environment.

  • Describe the fundamental requirements of a risk management framework / program.

  • Describe the skills required for an effective risk manager / coordinator.
  • Demonstrate the ability to identify , analyze and treat risk
  • Demonstrate ability to evaluate the effectiveness of a risk management program.
  • Describe the types of risks facing healthcare organizations.
  • Describe the integration between risk management and other key corporate processes

It is highly recommended that students have workplace support for taking this course as many activities are hands-on and best completed in a healthcare environment.

To be successful in the Integrated Quality Management program, students must meet the following language and technical requirements.




English is the language of instruction for all CHA Learning courses. It is therefore recommended that students be competent in reading, writing and speaking English.


Students must have basic computer knowledge and internet navigation skills; and access to a computer with Window 7 or higher.

Please note:

  • Students choosing to use Mac or Linux operating system must have experience using alternate remote access software.
  • CHA Learning staff can only assist Windows operating system users and provide technical support in relation to our website; we do not provide technical support for internet and/or basic computer use.
